Peroglide (Permax) Lawyers
Recent studies have shown Permax heart valve disease in around one-fourth of Parkinson's patients taking Permax. Valve injuries, also referred to as valvulopathy, first became known by the FDA in 2002.
Peroglide, which is marketed as Permax, is used to treat Parkinson's patients. Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurological disorder resulting from the degeneration of neurons in a region of the brains involved with movement control. Permax was approved by the FDA in 1988.
Permax was developed by Eli Lilly and is manufactured by Amarin Corporation. Permax is referred to as a dopamine agonist and is commonly used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Since the drug's release in 1989 over 500,000 patients have taken Permax to treat Parkinson's disease and Restless Legs Syndrome.

Permax valve injuries studies
Two Permax studies were conducted in Britain and Italy. In the British study, 11,417 people were given Permax. Those people were 37 times more likely to develop heart problems. The Italian study involved 155 people who were using Permax. Of the people taking Permax 23.4 % of them developed heart problems.
The Mayo Clinic has also reported patients taking Permax who were later diagnosed with serious heart valve diseases. Permax is no longer recommended for anyone with heart problems according to doctors at the Mayo Clinic.
Heart Valve Disease Permax
Heart valve disease prevents valves from opening or closing properly. There are two primary types of heart valve disease. Stenosis (obstruction) is when a valve opening becomes narrowed, making it hard to pump blood to the body. Regurgitation (insufficiency) is when a valve fails to completely close, causing the blood to leak backward instead of flowing forward.
Symptoms of heart valve disease include swelling of the feet and ankles, shortness of breath, and chest pain. Left untreated, some types of valvular heart disease can progress to the point where the patient may die from heart failure.
A new Permax study , "Cardiac Valve Regurgitation With Peroglide Compared With Nonergot Agonists in Parkinson Disease", was published in the March 2007 issue of the medical journal Archives of Neurology. This study adds further evidence that the risk of Permax heart valve injury increases with long-term use of the drug.
If you or a loved one has suffered a heart valve injury after taking Permax you may be able to file a Permax lawsuit. Permax lawyers can help evaluate your claim.
