According to a Reuters news report in September 2006, German drug maker Bayer said it was a mistake that they failed to notify U.S. regulators about a study on the risks of the heart surgery drug Trasylol (aprotinin). In what has become near-standard language for the pharmaceutical industry, the company said there were "questions about the study's methodology" and the findings were "preliminary."

Whatever excuse the company uses, a new review of hospital records for 67,000 patients shows that Trasylol use might increase the chances of death, serious kidney damage , congestive heart failure, and strokes.
