If you or a family member has suffered from kidney failure or undergone a kidney transplant after using a Fleet enema or Fleet laxative product please contact us today for a more information on your legal options including filing a Fleet lawsuit.
After using one of the Fleet enemas products it can sometimes take several weeks for patients to develop kidney problems leading to kidney failure. Often the symptoms of acute phosphate nepropathy will go undiagnosed during this period of time. Prior to 2008 there had been concern over kidney damage associated with the use of these oral phosphate laxative products. In 2006, there was an FDA warning over concern of renal failure linked to phospho soda products such as Fleet Phospho-soda. This warning followed 21 reports of people developing kidney disease after using these bowel cleansing solutions.
The way in which Fleet enemas work as a bowel cleanser or laxative can result in dehydration, decreased intravascular volume and hyperphosphatemia, which can increase phosphate levels in the renal tubules.
