Hernia Mesh Recall Lawsuit
The Kugel mesh hernia patch (Bard Composix Kugel Mesh Patch) is used to repair ventral hernias. The Kugel patch is placed behind the hernia defect through a small incision. The Composix Kugel Mesh Patch is manufactured by Davol, Inc.; a division of C.R. Bard. It has been linked to serious side effects and was removed from the U.S. Market on December 22, 2005.

Kugel Patch Surgery
Around 600,000 hernia operations are performed annually in the United States. A hernia typically occurs when portions of intestine or abdominal fatty tissue bulge or push out of the area where they are normally contained. The body cavity is enclosed in a thin membrane and when it weakens the tissue can protrude through the weak point or tear.

When most people talk about a hernia, they are usually referring to an abdominal hernia. The National Center for Health Statistics estimates that about five million Americans have an abdominal hernia.
According to the National Digestive Disease Information Clearinghouse (NDDIC), potential causes of a hernia include anything that creates increased pressure in the abdomen. This includes:

• coughing
• vomiting
• straining/constipation
• sudden physical exertion
• obesity
• pregnancy

Hernia Mesh
The Kugel patch is held open by a “memory recoil ring” that allows the hernia patch to be folded when it is inserted. Once the hernia mesh is in place it springs open and lays flat. The memory recoil ring that opens the Kugel Mesh Patch can break under the stress of placement in the intra-abdominal space. This can lead to serious side effects including bowel perforations (rupture) and chronic intestinal fistulae (abnormal connections or passageways between the intestines and other organs).

The Kugel hernia patch was recalled because of reports that the memory recoil ring has broken and caused serious injuries to patients. The FDA recommends that patients who have one of the recalled hernia patches implanted seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as persistent abdominal pain, fever, tenderness at the implant site or other unusual symptoms. These problems could be associated with a broken hernia mesh ring.

If you or a loved one has suffered side effects from the Kugel Mesh Hernia patch may be able to file a Kugel mesh lawsuit. A hernia mesh attorney can help evaluate your claim. Free initial consultation. No fees unless we recover compensation for you.
