Effexor Lawsuits 2011
Families of children who developed Effexor birth defects caused by using this antidepressant drug during pregnancy continue to file Effexor lawsuits based on the serious and permanent injuries to their child. Effexor (venlafaxine) is an antidepressant medication that is in the class of drugs referred to as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI’s). These drugs, when taken during the third trimester of pregnancy have been shown to put an infant a higher risk of developing birth defects including persistent pulmonary hypertension (PPHN).
Following a 2006 New England Journal of Medicine report, the FDA issued a warning regarding using SSRI drugs such as Effexor due to the risk of PPHN. Some of the birth defects associated with taking antidepressant medication during pregnancy include:
• PPHN (persistent pulmonary hypertension)
