Propecia Lawsuit News

Propecia is advertised as being an effective treatment for men who are losing their hair, but men contemplating using this hair loss medication need to be aware of the serious Propecia side effects from the medicine before deciding to use it. If you suffer from permanent sexual side effects please contact us for the latest Propecia lawsuit news.

Propecia, also known generically as Finasteride, is a prescription pill given only to men in order to combat what is known as male pattern baldness. This baldness develops in nearly half of all men by the time they are 50, and is characterized by thinning of the hair and lack of hair growth on the crown of the head. Male pattern baldness is caused partially by an individual’s reaction to a male hormone, DHT, which is found in the scalp. This hormone causes the hair follicle to shrink, making it difficult for hair to grow.

Propecia blocks the hormone, which makes it easier for many men to grow and re-grow their hair. However, Propecia does have some serious downsides as well.

Propecia Side Effects in Men

Merck, the company that manufactures Propecia, strongly warns that this drug should only be used by men, and not by women who may also have hair loss. Pregnant women, or women who may become pregnant shouldn’t handle the pills, particularly any crushed ones because the drug can affect the sex organs of an unborn male baby.

Merck also says that a small amount of men could experience short-term sexual side effects, such as decreased interest in sex, difficulty achieving an erection or decreased production of semen. Once the drug is discontinued and out of the body, Merck claims, these side effects will go away.

A number of men, however, have found that what Merck has said isn’t completely true. Numerous studies are emerging, revealing that some of the men who have taken Propecia experienced sexual side effects for months or years—not short-term, as Merck has claimed.

Some of the men had taken Propecia for less than a month, but continued to have loss of libido, or difficulty with erections or orgasms for an average of 40 months.

Merck has recently acknowledged these long-term Propecia sexual side effects by changing the warning label, following several countries that required warning labels on this product, indicating the potential for lingering problems.

In the United States and other countries around the world, men who believe they were not fully warned about the drug’s potentially permanent sexual side effects are considering their legal options.
