Yaz Side Effects
Yaz side effects involving a stroke can have varying effects depending upon the area of your brain that suffers a blockage. Your brain consists of three primary components: cerebrum, cerebellum, and the brain stem. Each component is supplied by blood, oxygen, and nutrients. If the supply of these resources is blocked, your brain’s nerve cells will suffer damage. If the blockage is not treated within minutes, the cells will begin to die. Ischemic stroke can be caused by Yaz blood clots that form within your deep veins (typically, in your legs). The clots can break away and travel with your bloodstream toward your heart. When the emboli (i.e. migrating blood clots) emerge from your heart, they can make their way toward your carotid, vertebral, or basilar arteries. If they form a blockage in any of these arteries, you will experience stroke. The side effects will depend on the area of your brain that is affected.
Right Side Of The Brain
The right hemisphere of your cerebrum controls your ability to move the left side of your body. If nerve cells in this area sustain damage, you may experience weakness (hemiparesis) or paralysis (hemiplegia) on your left side. The impairment is often accompanied by “left neglect,” which causes you to ignore things on your left side. You might also have difficulty seeing out of the left portion of each eye.
Stroke damage to this area can also impair your ability to make spatial and conceptual judgments. The former can manifest as an inability to grab objects within reach, tie your shoes, or walk without tripping. The latter might display as a difficulty understanding how to use everyday items, such as a toothbrush or comb.
A Yaz stroke that affects your cerebrum’s right hemisphere may also impair your short-term memory. You might be able to recall events that happened in your life many years ago, but be unable to recount events that have taken place throughout the day.
Left Side Of The Brain
Your cerebrum’s left hemisphere controls movement on your right side. As such, a stroke in this area may cause weakness or paralysis on your right side. Moreover, you may lose the ability to see out of the right portion of both eyes.
This area of your brain also influences functions related to speech and comprehension. If Yaz blood clots prevent blood from reaching this area, you might experience difficulty using the muscles required to speak. You might also have trouble reading, writing, and understanding the words of others. This is a condition known as aphasia; impairments can be broad or highly-specific.
Stroke damage to the left side of your cerebrum can also trigger memory problems related to retention. For example, you may have persistent trouble remembering something you read moments ago.
Yaz Stroke In The Cerebellum And Brain Stem
Your cerebellum is located underneath the back portion of your cerebrum. This part of your brain receives data from every area of your body through your spinal cord. It is responsible for controlling your coordination, balance, and reflexes. A Yaz stroke that affects your cerebellum will likely cause dizziness and nausea, and some level of impairment to your reflexes.
Your brain stem is located in front of your cerebellum and it extends downward from your cerebrum. Stroke that affects this part of your brain is extremely dangerous (though rare). The brain stem controls your involuntary functions, such as breathing, blood pressure, body temperature, and consciousness. Plus, because your cerebrum sends movement-related impulses through the brain stem, damage to this area can indirectly cause paralysis.
Ischemic stroke is one of the potential side effects of using these birth control pills. It begins with blood clots that form within your deep veins. Many women who have no history of blood clots have developed abnormal clotting after using Yasmin birth control.
If you or someone you love has suffered blood clots, deep vein thrombosis, or stroke after using this oral contraceptive, contact a Yaz attorney. You may have the right to legally pursue compensation for your injuries including filing a Yaz lawsuit.
